Walking Between Worlds…
It’s only of late that I realised that places of communion existed in my real life. I never joined the dots of the places that gave me solace and healing through that connection to spirit and nature.
A giant tree, a creek from my childhood, that I revisited as a grown up. The penny didn’t drop until a reminder of the stories from my childhood about the faerie realm.
What the Faerie Realm Symbolises Today
There is an old Celtic belief that alongside our everyday world exists another—a place of wonder, wisdom, and mystery. It was known as the Otherworld, home to the Aos Sí, often translated as the “People of the Mounds.”
Whether you believe these beings were real, symbolic, or simply beautiful stories passed through generations, their message has endured for centuries.
The Faerie Realm was never really about escaping reality.
It was about seeing reality differently.
The ancient Celts believed there were moments when the veil between worlds became thin. Dawn. Dusk. Ancient forests. Sacred wells. Quiet places where nature seemed to whisper rather than speak.
These were known as “thin places”—locations where the ordinary and the extraordinary seemed to meet.
Perhaps we’ve all experienced something similar.
A walk through an old forest where time seems to disappear.
The hush that settles before sunrise.
The feeling that a place somehow remembers those who have walked there before.
Moments like these remind us that not everything meaningful can be measured.
In today’s busy world, perhaps the Faerie Realm symbolises something we have almost forgotten.
Wonder.
Presence.
Respect for the living world.
The old stories encouraged people to tread gently upon the land, honour ancient trees, protect sacred springs, and remember that humans are only one part of a much larger story.
Whether we call it intuition, mindfulness, spirit, or simply paying attention, the invitation is the same:
Slow down.
Listen.
Notice.
Nature has always been speaking.
Perhaps the Faerie Realm is not somewhere we travel to.
Perhaps it is a way of seeing.
A reminder that beyond our schedules, responsibilities, and endless distractions lies a quieter world waiting to be noticed.
One where every tree has a story. Every season carries wisdom.
And every soul is invited to remember that wonder is never far away.
Soul Reflection - Where does your soul find its sanctuary?
Is there a place—a beach, a forest, a mountain, or a quiet garden—where time seems to soften and your heart feels just a little lighter?
Perhaps that is your own “thin place.”
A place where, for a moment, you find yourself walking between worlds.
