Many of the words used in numerology, astrology and related fields can feel unfamiliar when you're first exploring them.

This glossary is designed to explain common terms in everyday language, making it easier to understand the conversations, articles and resources you may come across.
 

There are different schools of thought and practitioners may explain some terms in slightly different ways. The descriptions here are intended as a simple introduction to help you become familiar with the language.

Numerology and astrology can sometimes sound like another language, but they're simply different ways of exploring patterns.

 

Here's a simple guide.

 

🔢 Numerology

Numerology explores the patterns found within numbers—particularly those connected to your birth date and birth name.

It offers another way of understanding your natural strengths, life themes and the experiences that shape your journey.

For me, numerology is the starting point. It helps reveal the underlying pattern before I look at anything else.

 

🌱 Life Path Number

Calculated from your birth date.

Your Life Path describes the journey you're here to experience and the lessons that unfold throughout your life.

 

⭐ Expression (Destiny) Number

Calculated from your full birth name.

This number reflects your natural talents, abilities and the qualities you're here to develop and express.

Some numerologists call this your Expression Number, while others refer to it as your Destiny Number—they are the same calculation.

 

❤️ Soul Urge Number

Calculated using the vowels in your birth name.

The Soul Urge reveals your inner motivations, values and what brings you a deep sense of fulfilment.

🌿 Personality Number

Calculated using the consonants in your birth name.

Your Personality Number reflects the qualities that others are likely to notice first and the way you naturally present yourself to the world.

 

➡️ Personality Arrows

Personality Arrows are identified by looking at which numbers are present—or missing—in your birth date.

They highlight natural strengths, preferred ways of thinking and learning, and areas that may benefit from conscious growth.

They can offer insight into how you communicate, make decisions and approach life's challenges.

 

▲ Pyramid Points

Pyramid Points are a timing system within numerology that divides life into significant stages or turning points.

Each point represents a chapter of growth, helping us understand the opportunities, challenges and themes that may become more prominent at different times throughout life.

 

🌟 Astrology

Astrology observes the movements of the planets and explores how their cycles often coincide with themes and experiences in our lives.

I use astrology to provide timing and context—to understand when a pattern already shown through the numbers may become more active or noticeable.

Rather than predicting events, I see astrology as another lens through which to observe life's unfolding story.

Two planets working as one. Their energies blend and become stronger together.

​✶ Sextile (60°)

An opportunity for growth through cooperation. Supportive, but it asks for participation.

​□ Square (90°)

A challenge or tension that encourages action, growth and problem-solving.

​

​△ Trine (120°) 

A natural flow. Things often feel easier, as if talents or opportunities come more naturally.

​☍ Opposition (180°) 

Two energies pulling in opposite directions, inviting balance, awareness and compromise.

🌍 Astrocartography

Astrocartography is a specialised branch of astrology that maps your birth chart across the world.

It highlights places where different parts of your personality or life may feel more naturally supported.

Many people use it when considering travel, relocation or simply understanding why they feel drawn to certain places.

 

🔭 Astronomy

Astronomy is the scientific study of the Sun, Moon, planets, stars and the universe.

It explains what is physically happening in the sky and provides the scientific foundation for understanding the movements of celestial bodies.

🌑 Eclipse

An eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth align.

Many people associate eclipses with periods of change, endings, beginnings or shifts in direction.

🎂 Solar Return

A Solar Return occurs each year when the Sun returns to the exact position it occupied at the moment you were born.

Many astrologers view this as the beginning of your personal year and use it to explore the themes that may unfold over the following twelve months.

🏠 Houses

A birth chart is divided into twelve houses.

Each house represents a different area of life, such as relationships, career, family, home, health or personal growth.

The planets suggest what themes are active, while the houses indicate where those themes are most likely to be experienced.
